Makin' a Jenkin

2 min read
I'm a Lovecraft fan. I love seeing different interpretations of Lovecraft's creatures and gods. After how popular entities like Cthulhu became, I felt sort of sad that smaller (figuratively and otherwise) characters seem to have much less traction in the community at large. My favorite monsters from the Lovecraft canon are typically that of the Dream Cycle, but the rat familiar Brown Jenkin seems to fit somewhere in between ghoulish and cute. I wanted to bring that monster out more, as I hardly see many representations of him either in sculpture or illustration.

This is how Brown Jenkin, the figure, was born. Right now I am trying to get a smallish production run of the figure funded through Kickstarter.

Here's my project: www.kickstarter.com/projects/s…

It is my sincerest hope that this little guy can find a home amongst Lovecraft readers. What he lacks in godly horror he makes up for in sheer personality. You can almost see him patter up from some darkened recess of baseboards to nuzzle you curiously in the night, or help you perform unholy rituals in worship of Azathoth and Nyarlathotep. So far the project is going strong, and I am made ecstatic by the support of the artistic community in regards to it (and my other work.) I still have some way to go, but am thankful for where I've gotten thus far.

Will I make an army of horrible rat-things? I hope so! It is entirely up to my audience. In the meantime I'll suffer fitful sleep, dreaming of strange violet mists forming angles beyond comprehension, with that blasphemous and diminutive hybrid always tittering loathsomely in the darkness...speaking to me in all languages.
